About Us

Our history

We are Jelf. Experts in Insurance, Risk Management and Employee Benefits for businesses and individuals.

When Chris Jelf founded the Group in 1989, he had a two-fold vision: to build long-lasting, trusted relationships with clients, and to provide them with expert advice - a business model which remains fundamental to how Jelf operate today.

In 2015, Jelf became part of Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC), a global leader in risk, strategy and people. With roots dating back to 1871, MMC's businesses have been helping clients prosper amid changing times, from the Industrial Revolution to the digital age.

In 2016 MMC acquired Bluefin and united them with Jelf. Then in 2018, a new Jelf joint branding was introduced, bringing together the rich heritage of these two leading community brokers under a single name.

Stronger together

A newly transformed business built on decades of experience with the same purpose: dependability and commitment to excellent service. Our strengths are our expertise and the relationships we build, and our purpose is simple: helping businesses and individuals thrive through understanding.

Phil Barton, CEO

Phil Barton is an insurance and financial services professional with more than 30 years’ experience. He has been the CEO of Jelf Insurance since 2010, having previously been Head of Compliance, Group Commercial Director, and Group Marketing Director. Prior to joining Jelf in 2003 he worked for AXA, where he was the Managing Director of IFA Sales, and Prudential, where he was Sales Director of National Accounts.

As CEO, Phil led the successful integration of the Group’s insurance business with Marsh. In December 2015 he became Group Chief Executive of Jelf and joined Marsh’s UK Executive Committee.

Phil says: “Being the Chief Executive of Jelf is not a job. It’s a way of life that I apply my complete attention to every day.”

We recognise that without you, our clients, we would not be in business. Your feedback shapes our business, and we use it to improve the things that matter most to you.
